Weigh-In #5 – It must have been the pizza

Wheel full 70px Well, sometimes you just can’t win.  After eating a 1,500 calorie a day low-carb, no fat, no salt, no fun diet in the hospital for much of four days this past week, I gained weight.

Wheel full 70px I’m up five pounds since last Monday.  I had on street clothes this time while on the scale- a pound extra, maybe- but I’d really hoped to make it in to the 330s.  Maybe this scale, which was in the ER at Bayfront Hospital in Spring Hill, Florida, was off by a bit.  Maybe not.

I wouldn’t feel let down. First of all, street clothes weigh about 2-3 pounds and sneakers or shoes add another. Secondly, the photo of IV bags you posted earlier this shows what else is going on. Each bag is 1000 ml of saline (salt and water). For each bag they pumped into you, that’s 2.2 pounds. Third, you have been riding your bike all day, building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Don’t be discouraged. Give your body a little time to settle in in about a week or so you’ll see that you gave lost weight. Now go have a piece of chocolate. It’s good for you (antioxidants).

So you’re heading home? I read your post about the recommendations to postpone and to do it somewhere cooler..must be an echo because I swear I’ve heard that before.. 🙂 Anyhow, $500 to relocate somewhere more temperate is nothing to hospital/ER/ambulance bills the next time your kidneys cry ‘uncle’. Let me know if you come through PDX on your way home.
